                                <geographicDescription>The territory of Central Kazakhstan (Karaganda region) is located within the continental West Siberian steppe zone and occupies the middle position in the republic, bordering Akmola and Pavlodar regions in the north, Kustanai region in the northwest, East Kazakhstan region in the east, Zhambyl and South Kazakhstan regions in the south, and Kyzylorda region in the southwest. The area of the region is 428 thousand km2. The territory stretches from North to South for 1300 km, from East to West for 700 km. The main part of the region is located in the central Kazakhstani Sary-Arka hummock; the southeast part of the hummock passes into the Karkaraly massif, dissected by intermountain depressions, canyons and river valleys. Kyzyltas and Ulytau mountains extend in the western part. In the south-west begins the boundary of sand massifs Karakum, Mynbulak, Aryskum, Moyinkum; in the south - the northern edge of the Betpakdala plateau. 
The following floristic districts are located in the territory of Central Kazakhstan: Western shallow hills, Eastern shallow hills, Ulytau, Karkarala, Betpakdala.

The leading families are Apiaceae, Asteraceae, Lamiaceae.
