Karkaraly State National Natural Park is organized by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated December, 1, 1998. Total area of park is 112,120 ha. It is located 220 km southeast of Karaganda city. The territory of the park is divided into the following districts: 1). district in the regime of the reserve, where all economic activities are prohibited (Kent Mountains); and 2). district with the regime of the reserve (Karkaraly Mountains), where economic activities are allowed under strict control. The park also includes the eastern part of the Sarykulja Mountains, which is granite with pine sparse forest. The park consists of four floristries: Gornoe (25576 ha), Karkaraly (23846 ha), Kent (40901 ha), and Bakhty (21797 ha) The core of the park consists of the Karkaraly and Kent mountain massifs, in which some of the highest peaks of the Kazakh Upland Forest - Komsomolskyi Peak (1403 m) and Kent Mountain (1469 m) are located.
